Iowa women win Big Ten Tournament opener

March 4, 2005 By admin

The Iowa women opened the Big Ten tournament on Thursday night with a 70-42 cruise past Michigan. Crystal Smith led the way with a game high 23-points, Jamie Cavey added 15 and freshman Abby Emmert had a strong game off the bench. She finished with eight points and three assists. She says anytime you play someone the third time — you know what works, and she says that’s how the game went. The win was Iowa’s 20th of the season against eight losses and they will take on third-seeded Penn State tonight. She says they’re really ready to play them and hope to get some revenge with a win against them. The Hawkeyes lost to Penn State at home in their only regular season matchup.
