Tournament traffic faces construction changes

March 5, 2005 By admin

The girl’s State Basketball Tournament starts Monday and construction in Des Moines could make it slow going for those coming into town. Bill Lusher is with the Iowa Department of Transportation. He says they’ll shift traffic at 8th and 73rd street from three lanes down to two. He says it won’t be much different from other construction in the past. Lusher says those traveling from the west can make things easier by getting off at the right exit. He says those coming in from the west should use the 7th street exit. Those coming in from the other direction have a different exit. He says the only exit available for those coming in from the east side is the 3rd street exit. Lusher says there are some alternatives to I-235. He says you can try using the Iowa five southern access off Fluer drive, or try going to the east mixmaster and coming in and use the third street exit. The boys’ basketball tournament is the week after the girls.
