The matchup for Friday night’s classs 1A championship game is set at the girls state basketball tournament. Third-ranked I-K-M got a 63-52 win over Treynor.
IKM coach Gene Rasmussen says forcing Treynor into 25 turnovers was a key. He says if they can get that many turnovers, then he feels good about where they’re at as a team.
Rasmussen says IKM tried to force the tempo, though he thought they would try to slow it down.
Treynor coach Gail Hartigan says the end of the third quarter was the difference as they went from a three point lead to down by two.
Charter Oak-Ute will get a third crack at IKM in the 1A title game. The eighth ranked Bobcats got 31 points from freshman Kami Kuhlmann (cool-mun) in a 68-56 win over George-Little Rock.
Kuhlmann finished 10 of 17 from the field and was surprised the Mustangs never adjusted on defense. She says she decided to take the shots if they were going to give them to her.
Erin Dirks led GLR with 22 points. The Mustangs finish 22-5. Charter Oak-Ute hopes the third time will be charm on Friday night after losing both regular season matchups to IKM.
