Governor applauds Iowa NCAA basketball teams

March 14, 2005 By admin

Governor Tom Vilsack has jokingly declared Iowa “the college basketball center of the universe.” As you probably know by now, Iowa, Iowa State and U-N-I are going to the N-C-double-A tournament. The Iowa State women are going to the women’s tourney.”It really was an exciting day, yesterday, to watch the selection shows on t.w.,” Vilsack says. The governor praised the Iowa State women’s basketball team as a “gutsy group of athletes” and he says it’s exciting to have all three state universities represented in the men’s tournament for the first time in history. “Terrific stories. Great comebacks. Hats off to all of the coaches and particularly the (teams),” Vilsack says.
