Two people are hospitalized in the Quad Cities after a Davenport fire truck hit a passenger car Sunday night. Fire Chief Mark Frese (freez) says it happened about 9-30 last evening as a team of firefighters were answering a call. He says while they were on route, a vehicle pulled out from a fast-food restaurant. The truck swerved to miss it but couldn’t, and hit the car broadside. Out of control, the truck then hit a power pole and wound up on its side. Two people were injured, one from the car and the other someone who’d been on the fire truck. Both were in guarded condition last the chief could determine, and he adds the accident is still under investigation. The pumper had been responding to a report that a large pile of brush was burning, and another fire truck was dispatched to put out that fire.
