The state of Iowa is spending money advertising Iowa to Iowans. Department of Economic Development director Michael Blouin says they’re taking advantage of large gatherings of people, like the recent state wrestling, boys basketball and girls basketball tournaments. Ads were shown during the games that were telecast, and the ads were also shown on the jumbo screen in Vet’s Auditorium. The state also set up a booth, giving out wristbands with the www.lifechanging.com website and luring the kids to sign up to win an I-Pod. Blouin says the interest in the ads has been “amazing” and folks are happy the state is “tooting” its own horn. The ultimate goal of the campaign is to get Iowans, particularly younger Iowans, to think twice about moving out of state.
