Alford favors Big Ten teams in NCAA finals

April 1, 2005 By admin

Iowa basketball coach Steve Alford admits he’s biased but says he likes the chances of an all Big Ten NCAA championship game on Monday night. The Final Four begins tomorrow in St. Louis and Illinois plays Louisville and Michigan State goes up against North Carolina. Iowa is the only team that played all the teams in the field and Alford feels the Illini and Spartans are the best defensive teams. Alford says he thought the two Big Ten teams defended his team better, but he says they probably know his team better. But, he says Louisville gave up a lot of points to Wisconsin, which normally doesn’t score a lot. Alford says all four teams are high scoring in the 80’s and some 90’s. He says all three games, the two semifinals and the championship will be interesting to see how it all falls out.Iowa finished 2-4 against the Final Four teams.
