Three die in Eastern Iowa accidents

Three people died in three traffic accidents Sunday in eastern Iowa. One happened in early Sunday in Jackson County west of Preston. A car driven by 31-year-old Cheryl Werden of Maquoketa crossed the center line of Highway 64 and collided nearly head-on with a car driven by 52-year-old Donna Whitemore of Creston. Whitemore’s car went over an embankment and rolled, ejecting Whitemore from the car. Whitemore was pronounced dead at the scene, Werden was taken to an area hospital. Another accident happened about two p.m. Sunday in Iowa County on Interstate 80. a car driven by 68-year-old Michael O’Brien of Rockwall, Texas entered the median, struck a culvert and rolled. O’Brien died, while a passenger was treated at an area hospital. The third accident occurred late Sunday afternoon in Poweshiek County on Highway 6. A motorcycle driven by 58-year-old Ronald Allen of Grinnell was in the process of passing a truck pulling a livestock trailer when Allen lost control and was ejected from the bike. Allen was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead.
