Second Fairfield fails to reach decision in sex abuse case

April 18, 2005 By admin

Another hung jury in the sexual abuse case against 42-year-old Lawrence Smith of Libertyville. The jury of 10 men and 2 women began deliberations Friday and started up again today (Monday) but, as in his first trial, they failed to reach a decision. Jefferson County Attorney Tim Dilley, the prosecutor, said they have to decide whether to hold a third trial for Smith, possibly in a different venue. Smith was accused of abusing his daughter between 1997 and 2000.
