The priorities have shifted for the Wartburg College baseball team this week. After opening Iowa Conference play with a 9-1 record the Knights have this week off for final exams. Wartburg coach Joel Holst says finals week falls at a time where they’re playing some good baseball, but he says the kids are at the school to get an education. The Knights don’t have another game on the schedule until next Wednesday and Holst has been working the phone looking for some non conference games before then. He says they lost some games because of the weather and were trying to pick up some games. Pitching and defense have been major factors in their quick start. The earned run average for the Knights’ pitching staff is two-point-one-one and they are only allowing just over two walks per game. He says he feels like he has one of the best defensive teams they’ve ever had at Wartburg.Wartburg is 18-6 overall.
