Rain pushes back William Penn-Grand View game

April 20, 2005 By admin

Rain has moved the Midwest Classic Conference showdown between William Penn and Grand View to Thursday afternoon in Des Moines. Both teams enter the twinbill 10-4 in league play. Penn is 32-9 overall after advancing to the NAIA World Series a year ago. Statesmen coach Mike Laird says this team has displayed more power on offense. He says they have more people who can hit it out than they did last year. Laird says some of the leaders from last year’s team graduated and their absence has shown at times in games they let slip by with a bad inning. One constant has been pitching, the staff has an earned run average of two-point-six-five.Penn will conclude an important week with a series against third place St. Ambrose this weekend.
