Le Mars guard unit called to active duty

April 22, 2005 By admin

More of Iowa’s citizen-soldiers are answering the country’s call. Iowa Army National Guard members based in Le Mars are being called to active duty this summer, the unit’s second activation in two years. About 160 soldiers in Troop C, First Squadron, 113th Cavalry, are expected to be activated in July for between 15 and 18 months of duty in a still-unspecified location. The unit performs reconnaissance and surveillance missions to assist commanders in planning and executing operations. Troop C was last notified of active duty in September of 2003 and left a month later.
