Questions remain as search continues for Minden woman

May 10, 2005 By admin

Southwest Iowa authorities say they have no new leads in the search for a missing Minden area woman who is nine months pregnant. Pottawattamie County Sheriff Jeff Danker says 34-year-old Stephanie Ehlers was reported missing by her husband, Jason, early on Sunday morning. She was last seen sleeping on Saturday about 5:30 P.M. at her house by her husband. She was supposed to meet him at a friend’s house that night and didn’t arrive. Contrary to earlier reports, Danker says there is NO evidence the couple had an argument prior to Ehlers’ disappearance. She told family members she would have labor induced yesterday (Monday) but her doctor in Council Bluffs said no appointment had been scheduled. Danker says the family is concerned about Ehlers’ well being and that of the baby. No one has been contacted — family, friends or co-workers — by Ehlers and due to the extent of her pregnancy, he says there is legitimate concern. Danker says he is not familiar with Ehlers’ medical history and doesn’t know if there’s a medical condition that might have contributed to her disappearance. He says her mental state is what would be expected from a woman who is about to give birth. While she was concerned about the upcoming delivery, Danker says the husband said there was nothing out of the ordinary. She apparently left driving her red 1989 Chevy Cavalier and foul play is not suspected. Ehlers is white, 5-foot-2, 130 pounds with short brown hair and may not appear pregnant if she’s wearing loose-fitting clothing.
