Iowa softball team sent to Lincoln NCAA Regional again

May 18, 2005 By admin

For the third straight year the Iowa softball team will head to Lincoln, Nebraska for an NCAA regional. The 19th ranked Hawkeyes finished as the runner-up in the Big Ten Conference tournament over the weekennd. Hawkeye coach Gayle Blevins says they were hoping they’d have a chance to host a game, but now they have to take their show on the road. She says they’re looking forward to playing. Iowa will play host Nebraska in the opening round on Friday afternoon and the other teams in the regional are Washington and Creighton. This is the first season that there will be two weeks of regional play. The winners this weekend advance to a super-regional next week. Blevins says there are four quality teams without any weak teams. She says past bigger regionals might have some weaker teams, but that’s not the case here.
