Wartburg ready for NCAA play

May 19, 2005 By admin

Wartburg opens a division three regional in Bloomington, Illinois this afternoon against Washington of St. Louis. The Knights hope to avoid the losers bracket but showed last week it can be done by winning the Iowa Conference Tournament last week after losing in the opening round. Knight’s coach Joel Holst will send ace pitcher Matt Scherbring to the mound. He says Scherbring will be fired up about getting the first game win and hopefully the can give him more support. Aurora University is the top seed and Holst says the Knights feel they can make a run at it. He says they feel pretty confident against anybody if they play good baseball. Holst says they’ve had good pitching and defense and that will help you against anyone. Wartburg is 31-9 on the season.
