Good weather helps first coed track meet

May 20, 2005 By admin

Temperatures in the 80s and a large crowd highlighted the opening day of the state high school track meet in Drake Stadium. For the first time the boys and girls meets are combined and opening day got a positive review from Rick Wulkow, the executive director of the Iowa High School Athletic Association. He says they were ahead of schedule all day long with a good crowd and several records set. Wulkow says there were concerns about the size of this meet. He says the first time you’re always worried about the schedule and staying on time. Wulkow says the weather is always a concern when there are so many events, but he says it cooperated the first day and sounds good for the rest of the meet. Wulkow estimated the opening day crowd at between 13 and 14-thousand.
