Iowa baseball team has shot at title with sweep

May 20, 2005 By admin

The Iowa baseball team enters the final weekend of the regular season with a shot at winning the Big Ten title. The Hawkeyes open a four-game series at league-leading Illinois tonight and need to sweep all four to win the crown. Illinois needs two victories to clinch the conference title. Iowa fell to third in the Big Ten after dropping three of four games at Purdue last weekend. Iowa coach Jack Dahm says they’ve bounced back several times this year and he thinks they’ll come out and play well. Dahm says the pressure is on Illinois as they suffered some losses in their recent series. He says it would be nice to win the first game and put some pressure on them. The Hawkeyes have clinched a spot in the Big Ten tournament but could finish anywhere fron first to sixth in the league race. Dahm says this is new territory for the program and he says they’ve talked about it from the start that they need to prepare to play for championships. He says he expects it to be a great environment. Iowa is 25-26 overall.
