Closing arguments underway in death penalty case

Closing arguments are underway in Sioux City in the trial of a Klemme woman charged with helping her boyfriend kill five people over ten years ago. Angela Johnson is facing the death penalty if convicted of helping drug kingpin Dustin Honken kill two of his former dealers, a woman, and her two daughters in 1993. Prosecutors say the victims’ bodies were found in 2000 after Johnson gave a jailhouse informant details of the killings and maps to their bodies. Prosecutors wrapped up their case last week after calling 45 witnesses, while the defense rested their portion of the case without calling a single witness. Honken was found guilty last fall and a jury recommended he receive the death penalty, but sentencing in his case is pending a ruling on Honken’s motion for a mistrial.
