Man arrested, charged in Marshalltown murder

May 24, 2005 By admin

Police have arrested the last person to see a Marshalltown woman alive and charged him with the woman’s murder. Police Chief Lon Walker says 39-year-old Pedro Perez was arrested Monday in the death of 41-year-old Laurie Ann Reyes.
He says they interviewed Perez and after consultation with the county attorney, they charged him with first-degree murder. Reyes was found dead in her apartment May 16th, and police issued a material witness warrant shortly afterward for Perez. Chief Walker says officers had dealt with Perez before.
He says Perez was arrested several times in Marshalltown on some alcohol-related offenses, domestic violence and violation of a no contact order. Walker says it’s believe that Perez is in the U-S illegally.
He says Perez has used multiple dates of birth and multiple alias, so they believe Perez is an illegal alien. Walker is not releasing other details on why they believe Perez killed Reyes and what may’ve led to murder.
