Drowning victim in Eastern Iowa identified

Clayton County authorities have released the of a young girl who drowned Tuesday in the Volga River. Emergency workers were called out about noon to the river at Volga where eight-year-old Molly Schmidt was swimming with other kids just above a shallow dam. The currently apparently took the girl under the water and she did not come back up. She’d been submerged for half an hour when rescue workers found her in chest deep water. Rescuers performed C-P-R and she was flown to a Waterloo hospital where she was pronounced dead. Schmidt and her family had moved to Volga last year from Des Moines.
