Governor signs bill for "desitination park"

June 15, 2005 By admin

Governor Tom Vilsack was in southeast Iowa today to sign a bill that puts up state money for a “destination park” near Lake Rathbun. The Honey Creek Destination Park is to be built along the shore of Rathbun and will include a golf course, cabins, a lodge and expanded boat docks. The bill Vilsack signed will make 28-million dollars in state bonds available for the project; local backers are to raise matching funds. The park project has been under development for over a decade, and in a prepared statement Vilsack said the resort will provide recreation opportunities and economic vitality to the region. There’s already a state park on the site, so the 28 million is for the improvements, not for buying the land.
