Slippery suspect finally caught in Des Moines

June 20, 2005 By admin

A slippery suspect who’s been on the run for weeks has finally been snared in Des Moines. 30-year-old James Patton walked away from a prison-work release program in the capitol city back on May 13th. An anonymous tip last week led police to Patton, who’d barricaded himself in a Des Moines motel. 60 officers responded to the scene during the seven-hour standoff. When police finally burst into the room, Patton was gone. He’d scurried out a trap door in the ceiling, through the attic and onto the roof. Sunday, another tip led police to Patton’s uncle’s apartment where he was quickly captured after a brief standoff. He’s now facing a host of charges, including kidnapping and weapons possession by a felon.
