Brother of fallen Iowa soldier dies

A Crawford County man who is the brother of a soldier who died in Iraq recently was killed last night (Monday) after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 30 west of Vail. Investigators says 19-year-old Justin Paul Byers of Schleswig was reportedly walking up out of a roadside ditch when he was struck by a pickup truck operated by 42-year-old Mark Schurke of Vail. Justin Byers is the brother of 22-year-old Iowa National Guard Specialist Casey Byers who was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq on June 11th. Services for Casey Byers are set for Wednesday at 11 a-m at the Denison National Guard Armory.
