Dogs go to work today

June 24, 2005 By admin

Iowa’s workplaces are going to the dogs today (Friday), rather, the dogs are going to workplaces as part of National Take Your Dog to Work Day. Heather Starr, at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, says businesses statewide are encouraged to let employees bring their furry friends to the office. Starr says the purpose is to show other staff members what great companions dogs make and to encourage them to adopt dogs from shelters and rescue groups. She says having a canine in the cubicle may help the day go faster — and more efficiently. Starr says studies show that pets in the workplace boost employee morale and productivity, while dropping stress levels and heart rates. She says the animals are usually welcomed by customers too as unofficial greeters. Starr says this special dog day is not meant as a slight to owners of other types of animals. Certainly employers are encouraged to allow people to bring in other pets too, although it may not be the best thing to bring in dogs and cats on the same day.
