Tommy John to visit Feller Museum in August

June 27, 2005 By admin

Former New York Yankees pitcher Tommy John will be at the Bob Feller Museum in Van Meter to sign autographs on August 12th. John began his major league career at the age of 20 and when he retired in 1989 he was the oldest player in the league at 46. He will be most remembered for undergoing an experimental elbow operation which prolonged his career and is now a common occurrence, “Tommy John Surgery.” Julie Bailey is executive director of the Feller museum and says John will be there from four to seven p.m. and will sign autographs for 25 dollars each, with the proceeds going to the museum.Bailey says if you can’t get to the museum in person they do offer the chance to get autographs through the mail. Bailey says while these events draw big crowds they try to make it more than just an autograph session. She says they want it to be a nice experience and try to do it in a slower way.If you need more information Bailey says you can contact the museum at (515) 996-2806.
