Second OWI charge, maybe homicide by pick-up, too

August 9, 2005 By admin

Police have charged a 22-year-old Des Moines man with driving drunk after an early morning collision with a utility pole. Des Moines cops say at about 2:30 this (Tuesday) morning, 22-year-old Charles Edward Devries was driving way too fast on a city street when he lost control of his pick-up and hit a utility pole. When cops got to the scene, they found a critically injured man in the bed of the truck, but no driver. A few minutes later, they found Devries a couple of blocks away. He’s been charged with leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and second offense drunken driving. He’ll also face a homicide by vehicle charge if the injured man dies.
