Coe College hopes to regain momentum from fast finish in 2004

August 17, 2005 By admin

The Coe College football team has been looking forward to this season since the moment last season ended. The Kohawks finished 2004 by winning their last four games to grab a share of the Iowa Conference title with Wartburg, their second title in three years. The finished the season 7-3 overall. Coach Eric Raeburn says they played their best football toward the end of the year, and they were sad to see the season end. He says many of those teammembers are back and anxious to get the season started. The offense will have a new quarterback this season but whoever wins the job will be surrounded by a veteran group of eight returning starters. Raeburn says it will make it easier if the experienced guys pick up the slack.Senior tackle Sean Kennedy has been named a pre-season division three All-American. He will anchor an experienced offensive line. He says Kennedy started as a sophomore and then worked hard in the offseason to get better every year. After a slow start the defense made major strides in the second half of 2004 and nine starters are back. Coe opens September third at home against Westminster.
