Drake volleyball coach learns patience

August 24, 2005 By admin

New Drake volleyball coach Amy Farber-Knowles admits she’s learning to have some patience as the Bulldogs prepare for their season opener this weekend. After winning six straight conference titles as the head coach at Oral Roberts Farber-Knowles enters her first season at the helm of a Bulldog program that was 3-26 a year ago and has a string of eight consecutive losing seasons. She says she’s never had a program “in this rough a shape.” She says she’s excited about the challenge.Farber-Knowles says she hopes they can have some success this season that builds some momentum for the program. She says she needs to get the team to buy into themselves and that the past is the past. She says they won’t have success until they are fundamentally sound and they have worked on that since she took over last spring. She says it will take some time and she’s learning to have patience to bring the team along the right way so they have the fundamental base skills. They open the season at Iowa’s tournament this week. Drake will play Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Friday and matchup against the Hawkeyes on Saturday.
