Central football coach enters second season

August 25, 2005 By admin

As he enters his second season as the head football coach at Central College Jeff McMartin hopes this year’s team gives the same kind of effort last year’s team did. The Dutch finished 6-4 overall but with a few breaks could have won the Iowa Conference title. Central’s three conference losses were by a total of 13 points. He says the players didn’t want the season to end and he say the plan is to learn from the mistakes they made and become a better team.McMartin says one advantage this season is that the players are more familiar with his system. He says they’ve also done a good job in the weight room to improve.A number of inexperienced players will be counted on this season. The offensive line needs rebuilding and the Dutch need a new quarterback. He says they don’t have much experience in either of those areas. The defense should be strong, especially up front. He says they’re all guys who’ve made plays and done the job.Central has another tough schedule and opens with a pair of non conference road games at Augustana and Bethel of Minnesota.
