Congressman Steve King says there are ways that Iowans can help with disaster relief for the victims of hurricane Katrina. The Republican fifth-district congressman says at this point, giving money is the best way to aid disaster relief efforts.King says the Red Cross has a website that he thinks will even take credit-card money. King figures it’ll take a lot of public and private money to repair the devastation, and points out, “the more donations we can come up with, the more we can give from our heart, the less will be pried out of the taxpayers pocketbook.” King says it’s still too early to be dispatching Iowans to volunteer in the relief effort. He says going in there won’t do much good yet, but we could get goods and services to refugees, something he thinks churches might organize.
