Iowa company ranked as good place for moms

September 15, 2005 By admin

Working Mother magazine ranks only one Iowa company on this year’s Top 100 list of best places to work if you’re a mom. The story says 70-percent of the workforce at Des Moines-based Principal Financial Group is female, including about half of the managers. Parents can tailor their hours to fit their needs, and two-thirds of the staff used flex-time last year. Principal has wellness centers at its offices in Iowa and four other states and pays at least half of the enrollment fee when employees join YMCAs nearby. The financial institution also launched a Volunteer Time Off program last year that lets employees contribute eight company-paid hours each year to nonprofit groups — or to their children’s schools. Employees responded by using 20-thousand hours of volunteer time off.
