Drake coach feels good heading into 4th game

September 22, 2005 By admin

Like last year Drake is off to a 1-2 start but coach Rob Ash says there is a much better feeling right now. After losses to UNI and Illinois State the Bulldogs rolled to a 37-14 win over Wisconsin-Platteville. Ash says he feels like they’re one full game ahead of where they were at this time last year because of the win.The biggest question mark for Drake heading into the season was an inexperienced offensive line and Ash says that unit has processed faster than expected. He says they’re doing a super job in blocking and that’s yielding good results.Drake will host Austin Peay this weekend in their first home game. It will be the first time these teams have met. Ash says 99 percent of Austin Peay’s players are from Tennessee and they love to play football. Because of the ongoing renovations at Drake Stadium Saturday’s game will be played at Valley High School in West Des Moines. Ash says it’ll be a strange feeling to have to pack a bag for a home game and get ready in a different lockerroom. But he says Valley has a great facility.
