Harkin skeptical of latest NASA space plan

September 22, 2005 By admin

Iowa Senator Tom Harkin says he’s skeptical of NASA plans to go back to the moon. He says he finds it interesting that the design of the launch and recovery is basically what we had under Saturn and Apollo. He says, “I think NASA, they have screwed up this whole space program when they went to the shuttle. It should never have been built.” Harkin, a democrat, says there’s not money to support the new program. He says he’s a strong supporter of space exploration but says, “It seems to me this is the wrong time to be coming up with a multi-billion dollar plan to do something when we don’t even have enough money to take care of the people hurt by Katrina. Its seems to me we have to get our house in order here, our fiscal house in order before we think about going to the moon.”
