Those who’ve fled the hurricanes in the Gulf to come to Iowa and the Iowa workers who’re helping with the recovery will get a little relief from the I-R-S. Christopher Miller, the I-R-S spokesman for the region covering Iowa, says hurricane evacuees and relief workers can get an extension on filing their taxes. He says if you had an extension in April that would normally make the taxes due in October, but with another extension, you will get until January 3rd to filed the taxes. Miller says if you have questions about taxes there’s a place you can call to get answers. He says they’ve established a toll-free number for victims with tax issues at 1-866-562-5227. Miller says they’re trying to work with people to help them as much as possible. He says when you’re affected by a disaster of this magnitude, taxes are the last thing on your mind, so he says they wanted to give the special number for people to call. Miller says you can also find out information on hurricane tax issues on the internet at: www.irs.gov.
