Iowa sets record for victories in win over Illinois

October 3, 2005 By admin

The Iowa Hawkeyes set a school record for home victories with a 35-7 win over Illinois. Its was the 21st straight home win. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says his team played hard and with effort, despite some mistakes. He says they kept chipping away and to get the 21st straight win was important. The Hawkeyes rolled on offense thanks to a running game that piled up more than 300 yards and Drew Tate finished 17 of 22 for 175 yards and a couple of touchdowns. Ferentz also felt the defense made progress and he says they know the problem spots, but he says if they commit to continue improving, then they’ll make progress and get better. The Hawks now venture out on the road this weekend when they take on a Purdue team that has lost two straight games.
