A central Iowa college student has won a nationwide competition sponsored by a razor-maker to claim the title “Legs of a Goddess.” 22-year-old Angela McNeany, a second-year law student at Drake University in Des Moines, says she’d never thought of herself as a leg model.

McNeany says her mother saw an ad for the contest in the Chicago Tribune and convinced her to enter. She won the Chicago division and was later named the national winner from contestants in ten U.S. cities, from Boston to San Diego. McNeany, a native of Rockford, Illinois, says she was a bit overwhelmed by having to strut her stuff in front of the judges. She says “I’d never done anything like that before so I was getting ready to go up on the stage and I thought to myself, ‘What do I do?’ but then I just went out there and was probably only out there for like ten seconds.” That was all it took though.

McNeany won 50-thousand dollars in prizes and the chance to appear in a TV commercial for Gillette. She says she enjoys keeping fit and now has more inspiration to stay in shape. McNeany’s a lifelong swimmer and works out with weights in her apartment. As one bonus prize, she was flown to Hollywood last week for actress Hilary Duff’s surprise 18th birthday party. Duff was among the judges who chose McNeany’s legs as the nation’s best.
