Ranked teams meet in 3A and 1A football

High school football action tonight a pair of unbeatens collide in class 3A district one as seventh ranked LeMars visits number 10 Humbolt. For LeMars and coach Jim Boyd, the key for the offense will be solving a Humbolt defense that has only yielded a week four touchdown to Spencer through the first five games. Boyd says Humboldt has a lot of size, speed and talent and are well coached.The Lemars defense has also been strong and Boyd says it is a unit that relies on speed not size. He says they’re pretty skinny and only average 175 pounds, but are built for speed and quickness and fly to the ball very well. Boyd says Humbolt’s wing-T offense is tough to stop in part because of all the misdirection. He says it looks like “a Chinese fire drill” at times. He says you have to key on the guards to defend it. Humbolt coach Greg Thomas say the defense has been playing well all year long. The defense has been helped by an offense that features a strong running game.He says the offense has been effective with the ability to pass at times. He says the special teams play has also been very good. With the weather turning colder Thomas says this will have the feel of a playoff game. In class 1A, sixth-ranked AGWSR is at home against East Marshall in a key district four matchup. The stakes are higher for East Marshall which dropped out of the top ten after a loss to Eldora-New Providence. AGWSR coach Matt Lindeman says the Cougars expect to meet a desperate team. He says they know they have to win to stay in the playoff hunt, and want to get back on the winning side after their first loss.
