Clarke College women set tennis mark

October 12, 2005 By admin

The Clarke College women’s tennis team set a new record over the weekend by becoming the first team to win nine straight Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference championships. Clarke accomplished the feat in Aurora, Illinois by sweeping all six singles matches and all three doubles matches. Coach Rick Arrington who started the program at Clarke back in 1995 says there was pressure on this team to keep the string going. He says after the six year you hear the kids saying they don’t want to see the string broken. He says this was special as it is the last year of the conference. The NIIC is merging with the Lake Michigan Conference and Clarke has applied for admission to the Midwest Conference. They will compete next year as an independent and will not compete for a league title.
