Eagle Grove standoff ends

October 13, 2005 By admin

A police standoff with a man in north-central Iowa is over. The 29-hour standoff ended peacefully last night around 9:40. Police say 50-year-old Kirk Simons had barricaded himself in his home in Eagle Grove on Tuesday afternoon. The Wright County Sheriff’s Office served a protective order on Simons, who then allegedly violated the court order and returned to the residence and barricaded himself in, threatening to commit suicide if confronted by law enforcement. Eagle Grove police say Simons is undergoing a mental health evaluation as criminal charges are being considered.
