D-P-H reports 11 more cases of West Nile

The Iowa Department of Public Health reports more cases of West Nile Virus. The agency’s confirmed 11 new cases of the mosquito-borne virus, bringing this season’s total to 31 in humans. Two of the people sickened by the disease have died this year. Frost over much of the state may have ended this year’s chance of infection, which typically peaks in late August and September, the prime season for the strain of mosquito that carries West Nile. Now, health officials are urging Iowans doing their fall chores to see to torn screens, sources of standing water and other things around the yard and area they can fix up and remedy as a preventive for next summer.
