At least six fires are in the statewide news from the weekend. Investigators say it appears the three fires that broke out in separate buildings early Sunday at the University of Northern Iowa were intentionally set. Damage estimates on the suspicious blazes have not been released for Gilchrist, Lang and Baker halls. A candle is blamed for starting a housefire Saturday in Charles City that killed a young mother and daughter — 21-year-old Lisa Mohring and one-year-old, Addison. Another housefire Saturday in Eldora killed a person whose body was found inside the home, but has yet to be identified. Also, a three-story, century-old brick apartment building caught fire in Davenport Saturday. The Linden Apartments had heavy damage and at least 17 people were left homeless. The building was on the National Register of Historic Places.
