Officials continue to investigate an apartment fire that left nearly four-dozen University of Northern Iowa students homeless over the weekend. Investigators hope to know later today what started a fire that swept through a student apartment building at the Hillcrest Park complex, near the U-N-I campus. Authorities say no one was injured, but the blaze left 38 people homeless. The fire broke out Friday afternoon, just as U-N-I’s homecoming celebration was getting underway. Officials say the fire gutted an upstairs apartment and severely damaged several others in a building that has 12 four-bedroom units. Students displaced by the fire are staying with friends and family. Investigators are trying to determine the cause. An insurance investigator is expected to survey the damage today.
