Decorah drops ban on selling contraceptives

October 18, 2005 By admin

The city of Decorah’s ban on the selling and advertising of contraceptives has been revoked. The city council’s approved the second reading and waived the third reading of an ordinance to eliminate the part of the city code that outlawed the practice. The issue was brought to the forefront by a Garnavillo man who noticed the law on the books and threatened to sue. City officials said they knew of no cases where the law was enforced by authorities. Many council members heard numerous comments on the issue as it’s gotten much statewide press.
