U-of-I President to discuss pink locker room at Kinnick

October 18, 2005 By admin

The debate over the pink locker room for Hawkeye football opponents goes behind the doors of the University of Iowa president’s office today (Tuesday). A University of Iowa law professor’s complaints about the pink locker rooms were heard by the NCAA’s certification committee, but committee member Pat Cain says the panel received no complaints from student athletes about the pink locker room. “So the equity subcommittee had no reason to identify this as an issue to address in our five year plan,” Cain says. Cain meets with University of Iowa president David Skorton today to talk about whether a university committee should review the issue. Former Hawkeye football coach Hayden Fry had the Kinnick Stadium locker room used by opponents painted pink as a psychological ploy. The U-of-I law professor who complained about the pink locker rooms in on-line comments received threatening messages responding to her “blog.”
