Investigators are still looking for suspects in a string of fires on and near the campus of the University of Northern Iowa. Three broke out in university buildings late Saturday and early Sunday, and one of those, Gilchrist Hall, will remain closed for a couple of weeks. U-N-I Public Safety Director David Zarifis heads the security agency normally housed in Gilchrist Hall, which was moved to temporary quarters.says a lot of people might assume that because it was homecoming weekend, a student’s the culprit. He says “We make none of those assumptions.” Zarifis says students are being asked to help solve the case. Zarifis says he needs their help to provide a safe environment. If they see anything that looks suspicious or out-of-the-ordinary he’s asking that they contact the campus cops so they can check it out. “We preach that message through the year regardless whether we’ve had these types of incidents or not.” Another fire Tuesday in student housing apartments forced several people to evacuate the residence for graduate and married students. That fire, in a utility area, is being investigated as suspicious.
