Yet another monster hurricane is churning toward the Gulf Coast and it may have an impact on what Iowans pay for gasoline. If Wilma follows the current path and hits Florida, Triple-A-Iowa spokeswoman Dawn Duffy says it’ll likely mean stable gas prices here for the time being. If the storm heads toward Texas or Louisiana though, look out. Duffy says if the Gulf Coast is hit again, as the region struggles to recover from previous hurricane hits, gas prices could bound back toward three-dollars a gallon very quickly. While much of the state and nation has seen gas prices drop in recent weeks, Duffy says that downward march is halting until Wilma’s way is more well defined.Triple-A puts the statewide average for a gallon of self-serve regular gas at 2-51. That’s down 19-cents a gallon from a month ago and up 57-cents from a year ago. The national average of 2-72 has dropped nine-cents a gallon since mid-September, but is still about 74-cents higher than a year ago.
