Here are the playoff scenarios put together by Radio Iowa Football Friday Night’s Scott Pierce.

CLASS 4A
EAST: There are three automatic and five at-large berths at stake.

MVC MISSISSIPPI
Iowa City High has already clinched the division’s automatic berth.

MVC VALLEY
Cedar Falls is in the playoffs clinching the division’s automatic berth.

MISSISSIPPI ATHLETIC
Davenport Assumption is in the playoffs.

AT-LARGE TEAMS
Bettendeor and Clinton appear to be in the best position for an at-large berth. Once win by each should do it. Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Cedar Rapids Prairie can lock up two of the other berths, but the road will not be easy. Prairie plays Cedar Rapids Xavier and Cedar Falls, so they have a chance to add 100 playoff points to their quiver. A split of the two could get them in. Kennedy can also lock up a spot with two more wins. A split of Dubuque Wahlert and Linn-Mar might get them in. They own the tie-breakers over Prairie and Xavier.

The final spot will be contested by Cedar Rapids Washington, Cedar Rapids Xavier, North Scott, and Pleasant Valley. Most likely, whichever teams runs the table will be playing in November. Washington plays Waterloo West and Iowa City High. Xavier has Prairie and Iowa City West on the docket. Since these two teams haven’t met, and they are the leaders for the final spot, a tie could find us scrambling for tie-breakers scenarios. Coincidently, Dubuque Senior could factor into this scenario. Should Senior lose one more game, that will cost Xavier five playoff points. North Scott has Muscatine and Clinton to play. They need to win out and get some help. Pleasant Valley has Davenport Central and Assumption still left. They need to win out and get a whole lot of help.

WEST: There are four automatic and four at-large berths at stake:
CIML CENTRAL
West Des Moines Dowling is in the playoffs clinching the conference’s automatic berth.

CIML IOWA
West Des Moines Valley is in the playoffs. But, they can clinch the conference’s automatic berth with a win this Friday against Marshalltown or losses by Ames and Fort Dodge.

CIML METRO
Des Moines Lincoln can clinch the conference’s automatic berth with a win this Friday against Des Moines Roosevelt AND have Des Moines East lose to Des Moines North.

MISSOURI RIVER
Sioux City Heelan can clinch the conference’s automatic berth with a win this Friday against Sioux City West.

AT-LARGE TEAMS
Heelan pretty much has to win the conference or stay home next month. Des Moines Lincoln should be able to get in without winning their conference.
Ames should be able to claim one of the spots should they beat either Mason City or Fort Dodge. Even two losses could get them in. FORT DODGE has Newton and Ames to play. Sioux City East wraps up with Council Bluffs Lincoln and Sioux City West. A split should be able to get these two teams in.
Johnston and Council Bluffs Lincoln appear to be the next favorites for a final playoff spot. But the schedule is not kind. Johnston has to play Dowling and Indianola. Council Bluffs Lincoln plays Sioux City East and Sioux City North. A loss will probably eliminate these two.

So let’s look at who’s next. That’s Ankeny. They play Urbandale and Southeast Polk. Should Ankeny win out, and one of those teams above them drop a game, it would put them in. Southeast Polk, Ottumwa, and Des Moines Roosevelt are still alive, but barely. Roosevelt has the most potential because they play Des Moines Lincoln and Ottumwa. In fact, if some dominos fall right, Roosevelt, Ottumwa, and East are still eligible to win their conference automatic berth.
