A U.N.I. volleyball player got to “come on down” but never made it up on stage during a recent taping of “The Price Is Right.” Brittany Bakker was a contestant on the long-running C.B.S. game show and “her” episode aired Monday in Iowa and the rest of the country.

Bakker was excited, but nervous “because of the bidding.”
“I was surprised because you don’t really expect to hear you name, you know, and then, I was sitting there, and then, you know, they said my name and I was like ‘Oh my god,’ and all my teammates were like ‘Get up there,'” she says. If you’ve never seen the show, four contestants stand just below the stage and “bid” on prizes. Their “bid” — it’s really their guess — has to be closest to the actual retail price of the item for them to win a trip up on stage to play a variety of pricing games.

Bakker, a U.N.I. sophomore from Dike, had three chances but was out-bid three times, so Bakker never got to shake hands with Bob Barker, the program’s host.
“During commercials, he stayed up on stage…he would talk to the crowd and people would ask him questions, but you never really got any contact with him unless you were up on stage,” Bakker says.

The episode was taped September 1st while the U.N.I. volleyball team was in the Los Angeles area competing in a tournament at Pepperdine. The team lost one match and won two others during that tournament.
