The timeline’s been pushed back again for returning to a fire-damaged building at the University of Northern Iowa. Alot of the administration offices are in U-N-I’s Gilchrist Hall and so is campus security. The dispatchers had to move out hurriedly on homecoming night when vandals set fire to papers in a ground-floor room. The smoky fire itself did little damage — but as workers continue to survey the damage from smoke, they keep moving the date workers can return to the hall. With carpet and ceiling tiles to be replaced and the rooms that need repainting, most staff won’t be able to start moving back into Gilchrist till the start of spring semester 2006.
