The Iowa Hawkeyes pulled away down the stretch in a 73-51 win over Colgate Tuesday night in the second round of the Guardians Classic in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes led by 18 at the break before Colgate rallied to within six in the second half of play. Iowa put the game away with a 13-0 run in a span of a little more than three minutes as they improve to 2-0.

Iowa coach Steve Alford says the scores in the last ten minutes of the games have been lopsided, and he says he hopes that’s because they’ve been wearing people down. He says his team played well outside of the first ten minutes of the second half, as they had too many turnovers and their poor offense allowed Colgate to dictate the game.

Senior forward Greg Brunner led the Hawks with 16-points and added eight rebounds and says while the seniors have gotten a lot of help from the younger players. He says he trusts them and they come in and have productive minutes.

The Hawkeyes will play Kentucky next Monday night in the semifinals of the Guardian’s Classic in Kansas City.
